First time in the snow
It's hard to believe, given he's 18 months old, but this was the first time Rowan got to play in the snow! We got about 3 inches on Tuesday into Wednesday and the city was freakin' out! I got a 2 hour delay going into work which was a real treat! His word of the week has been 'snow'.
We took Rowan back to see Dr. Witkin today for his 18 month shots. He is 110% better than last week. He is back to being healthy, happy and HUNGRY! Yes, his appetite is still out of control. He has gained a pound and 2 ounces since last Thursday. We hope it keeps going!!

Rowan is a bottomless pit
Ok, he didn't eat much last week. In fact, whatever he did manage to get down came right back up! Let's just say he is making up for the lost calories. He started with the delicious pumpkin pie that Gramma brought down. Then yesterday morning he awoke at 5:30am. Jason and I were wondering why he was up so early. So we changed his diaper and tried to put him back to sleep. He wasn't having it. He ran to the top gate and started shaking it to get down the steps. At the bottom of the steps he made a b-line for the refrigerator. He devoured a yoplait yogurt, an english muffin and a whole banana. Jason was home with him yesterday and when I got home from work he had some news for me. Rowan managed to eat 2 more yogurts, 2 fruitbars (similar to nutrigrain bars), 2 small containers of applesauce, some homemade mac n' cheese, 2 pieces of toast, a vanilla pudding, some TLC crackers, and 2 sippy cups full of milk. Now this was after breakfast and before dinner. His massive appetite continued for dinner as Jason and I watched him put down Mac n' cheese at a record pace. His hearty appetite continued today....he put 4 yogurts down today. So glad he's feeling better!Friday, January 23, 2009
What a week!
Just to update everyone on how Rowan's feeling. We thought that he was heading in the right direction after taking him to the Pediatrician on Tuesday....we were wrong. Wednesday proved to be the worst day of the week. The virus hit me like James Harrison hit Joe Slacco - out of nowhere! Poor Jason came home to a combat zone. Rowan was so sick and so dehydrated that Jason and I were really getting concerned. Luckily, he had his 18 month appointment on Thursday and Dr. Witkin told us to keep that appointment when we saw her on Tuesday. The good news is that he has grown 2inches since November and of course, his head circumference has grown too by a half inch! His weight is the exact same as November, which Dr. Witkin nor I were real concerned about considering the week he's had.
Fast forward to today: Rowan seems to be gradually getting better. The last time he was sick was last night. Today he was able to go for a walk in the beautiful weather we are having here - 55 degrees! He also wanted to play in the playground, which he did for about 45 minutes. Then I decided to take Rowan to a movie at the theatre - his first big screen experience! We saw Hotel for Dogs and he did great! He sat on my lap for an hour and a half and just chilled. He kept saying 'dog,' 'Bart,' and 'truck' for every police car or ambulance he saw. He was so tired that he didn't even want to eat when he got home. He passed out right after his bath at 7pm. Let's all hope the little guy feels better soon.
Hopefully, this week will fare better for the Little family.

For Rowan to remember
As we all know today January 20, 2009, is a day that will be remembered widely throughout history. Why?... well for 2 reasons and I'll touch on the obvious one first. Even a stanch Republican...ahem...will agree that today was a great day for American History. The inauguration of Barack Obama will be remembered probably more so than any other American president because of the special significance it has. Like many people of my generation ask..."Where were you on 9/11?'"...kids from Rowan's generation will ask...'Where were you when Barack Obama was inaugurated?" Funny you should ask! Rowan Little was in our Nation's Capitol watching it all unfold (kinda) on TV. All be it very sick, Rowan can look back at these photos in 20 years or so and know where he was and what he was doing. Since Saturday morning, Rowan's been throwing up and fighting off a virus (I'll spare you the details). Today was the first day that he didn't upchuck, so maybe Barack is bringing him some luck! We took him to the Pediatrician this morning because we thought he had some blood in his diapers. Ends up he's very dehydrated and crystals can form in your urine when that happens. Needless to say, I was overjoyed to hear that! So many things ran through my head last night and I didn't sleep a wink. We took the little guy to Target to pick out some new toys for enduring his worst sickness yet. Well we took him down the Thomas the Train Isle...BIG MISTAKE!! It was like going into a combat zone, with Rowan being the Frenemey! All of us got out alive and with him walking to the car holding his new train track set (above picture) and 3 new Thomas DVD's. He deserves it for sure....the kid LOVES Thomas!
Ok, onto the 2nd reason why this day is important to Rowan. Well, it has taken a few days to sink it (we've been a bit preoccupied) that the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to the Superbowl! In just two seasons of being a fan, Rowan is witnessing the perks that goes along with it. Lots of showing off to his friend Leah whose mom is a HUGE Raven's fan (he's not 'wacko for Flacco')and lots of wearing his Steelers hand me down sweatshirt from Charlie, even though it may have some chunks on it - he doesn't care . I'm so excited for Rowan to watch the Superbowl and see his favorite sports team put the smack down on Arizona. He's a Steelers Fan no matter where he lives...just like his Mommy!

A Craft Project
Rowan is now old enough to work on craft projects!! Last weekend we went and picked up some finger paints, playdoe, stickers, and a work smock. Today we experienced them all and Rowan did well.....for about 15 minutes!! It's a start at least!
Oh yah... and bring on those Ravens!!

Some more Christmas Photos
During the Christmas break, we visited a christmas light display that also housed an indoor railroad setup. For those of you who do not know, Rowan LOVES trains, especially Thomas! He really enjoyed the light and train display with his grandparents.
The bottom picture is right before Jason and I headed to my work Christmas party earlier in December. Gramma and Pap graciously agreed to watch Rowan....we had to twist their arm of course!
Happy New 2009 to everyone!!!
