Our day at Port Discovery

Saturday we spent the afternoon at Port Discovery Children's Museum! It was nonstop fun for Rowan. He explored how water fountains work with daddy, blew a giant bubble with mommy and poked his little head through the jester costume! It was a good way to spend a very rainy afternoon.

Me and my Aunt Sara

Rowan loves his Aunt Sara so much! Whenever Sara comes over, he gives her lots of wet kisses and free hugs. Monday will be a big day for Sara....she'll be watching Rowan for the day! I'm sure it will be strange for her to drive around with a carseat in her car and tote around a diaper bag. We know Rowan will love it and hope he behaves and naps for Aunt Sara:)
BTW, these pictures were snapped on Sunday before Rowan's big haircut!

Notice anything new with Rowan?

Yesterday was a big day for Rowan. He got his first official haircut!! His little curls were so cute but it was time for a big boy cut. He did great...smiling and waving to himself in the mirror. I think it brings out his beautiful big eyes even more!

The haircut is not the only thing that's new for Rowan. His vocabulary is expanding as is his desire to learn new things. He's now saying words in both English and Spanish, thanks to Cristina! He says pan (bread), mira (look) and reacts when Cristina asks him to pick up a certain toy. He picks up his bus, train, ship, bunny book, bug and the book goodnight moon when prompted. Jason and I are so proud of our little guy. He's such a joy to be around.

Rowan is also so affectionate. He loves to give wet kisses and lots of free hugs! He was SO excited when Ben, Charlie and Will stopped by for a quick visit Saturday night on their way back from the beach. He absolutely loves Ben and Char and gave them lots of kisses and hugs:) We had a great time visiting and I knew he'd be sad to wake up and find them gone:(

We have some fun months ahead of us with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I absolutely love this time of year - the chill in the air, the colorful leaves blowing in the wind and seeing pumpkins grin.

Happy fall y'all!!

First day of class!

Today was Rowan Matthew's first official day of tumbling! He seemed so excited during the car ride there and was very curious as the above pictures show. Well, let's just say he wasn't on his "A" game today. He started off well with stretching, but things quickly went downhill! He didn't like the bouncing exercise, or the blow up mat, or the uneven bars for that matter! However, he did real well on the balance beam and he even did a back flip with the instructor. Now I should mention that the class started at 9:15am and his nap time is 9:30am. I'm sure this had alot to do with it. Ms. Lonnie was great and said it was OK for Rowan to break from the routine and explore whatever he wanted too. Did that mean other people's purses and diaper bags.... I didn't think so. It's hard to keep a 1yr. old on task!
Oh well, next week is another week. Jason is going to bring him at a different time so hopefully he'll have better luck.

My Favorite Book

Rowan has quite a library already! Amongst some of his favorites are Goodnight Moon, If you were my bunny, Happy Halloweiner and I love you this much. There's one book that stands above them all: Bunny Big and Small! It's the first book he wants read to him in the morning and the last book he wants at night. It was actually a hand-me-down and I'm so glad we came across it:) The above picture is daddy reading Bunny Big and Small to Rowan. How cute are they!
P.S GO STEELERS!!

The Little Gymnist!

I've been trying to figure out what kind of classes to enroll Rowan in this fall. "Mommy and Me" is a class that involves music, storytime and lots of sitting around on mommy's lap. "Read to Me" is a nice class, but I can do that free at the library every Thursday instead of paying $20/week. "Gymboree play and music" involves just that plus lots of dirty toys that hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long. All of the above classes give a free trial class where you can go and see what each is all about. After leaving each alittle disappointed, a friend from my mommy group recommended "The Little Gym". Rowan and I had our free class this morning and WOW...WOW!! So many things struck me - the cleanliness of the gym, the friendliness of the staff, the equipment, the one/one time, the skills they learn and the structure of the class. First off, the little gym is just that! A miniature balance beam, vault, parallel bars and so much more! The equipment was so clean and the instructor showed me exactly how to spot Rowan while on each piece of equipment. We started off with stretching, then moved on to open gym time where we explored each piece of equipment with the instructor's guidance. Rowan did so well...he did two, yes, two forward rolls plus he learned the 'wheelbarrow'! When we got home we showed daddy what he learned (above picture). We're going to enroll Rowan in this gym. It's a little pricey, but the skills he'll learn will really benefit him. Plus I loved how CLEAN and STRUCTURED the class was.
I know Jason is flexible (just ask him to do a split) so I'm thinking that Rowan will do well in this class. Most importantly, he had a blast and I worked up a sweat chasing after him! Maybe he'll make the Pitt cheerleading squad someday. Hey It's a good way to pick up the ladies - at least that's what Jason says!

Food Follies

This is what happens when Mr. Independent tries to feed himself! He's at the point now where he wants to work the spoon to his own mouth and we let him. Jason and I clapped everytime he made it into his mouth and he kept smiling at us. He's more adorable everyday!!
Daddy watched Rowan today and boy did they have a good time! Jason showed him "guy things" whatever that means. I guess that would explain why Rowan has been so wild lately. I was ,and still am shocked when I see Ben and Charlie climbing on furniture and Jumping off their beds. I guess it was only a matter of time before Rowan starting doing "boy" things too. I always wanted a little boy...but is it too much for him to wear a helmet while he's playing??

Brusha, brusha brusha....

We started brushing Rowan's 8 teeth earlier this summer. Lately he's been trying to grab the toothbrush off us to do it himself. This is an action shot of him showing off his mad skills!
In other news, Rowan got his first taste of southern barbecue tonite and he loved it! He downed the majority of Jason's cornbread in no time flat and couldn't stuff his face fast enough of the homemade mac n' cheese.

His Newest Trick...

Look at what Jenni and I found Rowan doing tonight. I knew there was a daredevil inside him, but these pictures prove it. We did not pose him in these pics, he climbed up on the bike all by himself. The last picture is him getting out of the bathtub... he was giggling up a storm.
