We were duped. After having less than 2 inches of snow all winter, forecasters were bracing the Dc region for a major snowstorm - forecasting up to 10 inches west of the city. You may be able to imagine the excitement we all had.....the thought of a day off work and school, sledriding, hot chocolate and watching the beautiful snow fall from the comfort of our warm, cozy home. Well it didn't happen. Picture instead poor kids attempting to sledride on snow less hills, black streets and sidewalks and disgusting slush everywhere.
Jason and I have been smitten lately with the political astute local forecasters that call themselves The Capital Weather Gang. Their website and twitter feed are quite catchy. They even had a live feed to discuss the "SNOWQUESTER" last night from 8-9pm. They were all over it - hyping it up and getting hopes up everywhere. Suddenly their twitter updates and FB posts stopped @1pm today. Yes, they were dead wrong and are really nothing more than armchair meteorologists. They did post an update late this afternoon saying they will release a blogpost in the morning detailing what went wrong. Really?
In actuality, Fairfax got around 4 inches which quickly melted. Rowan and Jason attempted to sledride but were back home within 20 minutes. One local NBC reporter advertised a contest for a "snowman challenge" - the best snowman in the region. Sadly, the winner wasn't hard to pick. They showed 9 different snowman on air this afternoon:(
The sliver lining? Jason, Sara and Rowan did all have the day off and Highs are expected to be in the low 60's starting Sunday! This forecast is coming from The Weather channel not the Capital Weather Gang:) |
